Texas is known for steers and beers, mostly, but come 2011 they could start getting themselves in some conversations that don’t revolve around bulls and brews. Next Spring, Houston will be home to a shiny, new wakeboard park called Wake Nation, Houston.

Peter Kennedy, the man bringing the waves to the prairie, also opened a Wake Nation site in Cincinnati during the Spring of 2009 that has received solid reviews from everyone except boat manufacturers. The guys who used to cash in on the necessity of a boat for wakeboarding can’t be too happy about being left out of the equation, but we’re all happy because it makes wakeboarding more accessible to a larger audience, thus growing the sport.

Jumps, rails, and slider boxes will dot the lake underneath a cable system that’ll take riders around at 18-20 MPH. Wakers will “pay as they play,” much like the way you would pay for a couple-hour session at a skatepark. Waterskis and kneeboards will also be allowed.

You know what this means Texas…get yourself wet and learn some new tricks so you can show off when this thing opens up and the industry heads start rolling through. They’ll have plenty of room to scout your talents in the panoramic bleachers that are free to get in to. For the rest of you outside of Texas, start making road trip plans to Rosharon, just outside of Houston for the Spring, and as always, get out the deals at The House for all your gear needs.
