San Clemente Skate Park

When I was growing up, I always thought that I would never get good at skateboarding because there wasn’t a skatepark in my town. Then, when I moved to a town that had a skatepark, I complained that it wasn’t good enough. These two misconceptions I can guarantee now, are not true, and I didn’t really learn this until I skated around the San Clemente Skate Park, or as the sign calls it— The Ralph’s Skate Court.

avenida la pata skate parkI’m not sure what the difference between a skate park and a skate court is, but I do know that southern California grocery stores like Ralph’s should build more of them. This one is located in San Clemente, and that is coincidentally also where little know skateboarder Ryan Sheckler is from. This is the park that he grew up with, and he made it work, so that should serve as a bit of inspiration to whiners like me out there.

This is a generation II park, like Rancho Santa Margarita, and may have even had the same designer, but it’s definitely fun. There are a couple back-to-back six-foot miniramps that you can burn out of into a bigger bowl, and the spine between the two is just the right height. Then, on the other end is this tiny little clover bowl with no coping that seems like it was put there just so you can learn how to ride transitions.

There’s a couple pyramid features around, but they’re either too steep or too small to be legit street features. The shining street features are the rails and ledges, as they’re all low and easy to learn new tricks on. Then, there’s also some bleachers set up, so your fans can watch. The skatepark is located at 247 Avenida La Pata, San Clemente, CA.
