Mountain Dew Hut Jam

Those crazy Australians are at it again. They’re bringing back the Dew Hut Jam for 2010 on July 31. The contest debuted last year at Australia’s Mt. Buller, bringing a TTR three-star event to an often overlooked peak on an often overlooked continent. However, the Hut Jam is a pretty rad concept; there’s a scaled-down house that serves as the main feature of the contest.

One event curator claimed that last year the contest brought the world’s first rideable house to the scene. Every house in snowboard videos seems rideable, and not to mention the efforts Burton and The Stash parks they’ve installed here in America, so news must travel pretty slow to the land of kangaroos and dingos. Not Danny Kass’ friend The Dingo though, he’s really from a small town in Ohio and that accent is just a self-marketing ploy he came up with. That’s so smart of him, he’s got a TV show now!

Anyways, the Dew Hut Jam is a team event, and these team events really mix things up and bring a certain je ne sais quo to the contest circuit. Fifteen teams hit the snow and are judged together as they vie for a three-star win early in the contest season as well as a shot at the Gatorade Rookie of the Year prize. This year’s purse is $19,000…real American dollars, not the koala pelts they use down under. Everyone will have their marks set on the Quiksilver team that took home the glory last year.

To watch the contest live head here on Saturday July 31 and see what’s good on the other side of the planet.
