SPT to Design New Terrain Park
Vail Resorts has recently purchased Afton Alps Ski Resort, welcoming them into their Epic Family now consisting of 26 different mountains in 4 different countries. It is quite an exciting time for the Minnesota Family Ski Hill. Not only is Afton celebrating their 50th year of operation in the 2013/2014 Season but Vail Resorts has plans for a $10 million dollar capital improvement campaign.
Over 70 new Snowmaking Guns and an improved system spread throughout the 300 acres of skiable terrain will allow an earlier start and extend the season further into the spring. To match the improvements of the quality of man-made snow, Afton is implementing a re-imagining of the guest experience. Enhanced customer service, a wide range of Ski Pass options, an improved Food and Beverage department, world class coaching and instruction; Afton Alps will continue to be the beloved Mom and Pop Ski Resort but will now boast a world class feel.
Perhaps the most exciting enhancement to the hill will be the brand new terrain park designed and to be built by world renowned Snow Park Technologies. SPT has built over 250 Competition Courses; including all of the Winter X Games and Winter X Games Europe courses, the Winter Dew Tour, the Burton US Open, and the Vans Triple Crown. This winter Afton will claim the areas most innovative park system; consisting of three different sections for skiers and riders of every level, as well as a new teaching area. SPT has designed one of a kind signature features for the park, which will be accessible by new tow ropes. The highly anticipated state-of-the-art air garden will sit atop SPT’s illustrious list of park creations.
The 2013/2014 Winter Season has already been a stellar event for Afton Alps Ski Resort without a single flake falling from the heavens. The improvements Vail Resorts has in place for Afton will expand the hill’s horizons and improve the ski experience for the MidWestern shredder. The St. Croix River Valley has held this gem of a ski area in her bosom for fifty years. Now, she will have the chance to show the world that Afton is where Epic begins.
