Travis Pastrana pulls out of the X Games Best Trick Competition

Travis Pastrana had intended to set a record this year by competing in five events at the X Games, but now it seems that he will only be matching his record from 2006 by competing in merely four events. Merely four… the guy is still unreal. Travis has announced that he is going with his better judgment this time around and living to fight anther day by pulling out of the Best Trick Competition that will be happening tomorrow. He was hoping to be able to put down a backflip 720, but the trick just wasn’t coming together for him. So instead he will be wisely focusing his energy on the other four competitions he is partaking in at the X Games this summer that include Rally Car Racing, SuperRally, Speed & Style and Freestyle.

I think with this move Travis has set a great example that in these extreme sports you have to use your head. Especially at that level. Yeah, if you want glory you gotta have guts and you’re going to be fighting your head and common sense every time you drop in. But there is a line and the smart ones know where it’s at. Travis is one example and for another we could look at the legendary Jeremy Jones, when he will hike a mountain all day just to get to his destination and decide it’s unstable and have to turn back. I’m sure it’s all heart breaking, but they’re alive, and hopefully some time in their future the opportunity will cross their paths again.

But either way, competing or not, Travis’ attempts in practicing his backflip 720 still look sick. To read the full story check out the article on GrindTV.
