Nike 6.0 Surf Lights Up The Night in San Diego

The Nike 6.0 surf team had the honors of wrapping up the Chosen Tour last week at San Diego’s Seaside Reef. Keeping with the theme of the tour, the Nike crew set the start time for their new-age demo of sorts for 7 p.m. and when locals who had caught wind of this semi-esoteric session swarmed the beach they were treated a quite a scene.

First on the evening’s itinerary was the conveniently-named and aptly-chosen San Diego rock group Wavves. This threesome has been running up and down the California coast all year, and they’re definitely worth checking out if this is the first you’ve heard of them. They played a set of their favorite songs right on the sand and a few kids were so stoked they were barefoot moshing on the only patch of rocks on the beach.

The surfing was broken down into three heats, and featured some of Nike’s top guys like Dusty Payne, Kai Barger, and Koa Smith nicely complemented by the shredding good looks and snaps of Laura Enever. Paddle battles ensued right from the start, as eager local kids tried to prove themselves in front of the Nike team.

Seaside Reef is located between Del Mar and Encinitas, and only breaks at high tide— making it a perfect evening stop. The sun went down and the sunken lights glowed bright while the brightly-colored beach lights and fog machine made it feel as if everyone was a part of a Nike commercial.

Nike did it big as always, bringing in DJ Vega to drop beats on the beach to follow up the performance from Wavves. They had free tacos in the parking lot, and a station for customizing shirts and shorts. Not to mention the trailer full of little freebies and beverages.
