There’s nothing worse than warm weather arriving at the same time you realize that your best deck from last year has gone linguini limp. No pop equals no fun, so start saving up or filling out applications to ensure that you’ll be making the best of the time off school.
So you could always get a job, and depending on where you live, you want to find a job that works with skate time. It’s easy, you live in Nevada, you work in the middle of the day because it’s too hot to skate. You live in Maine, you work at night because it’s not warm enough during the day. Find something that’s really only just enough hours to keep you on fresh maple and urethane all summer, because otherwise you’re just giving into the man way too soon. A good option is a local skate shop (20% discount means 20% less time you have to work right?), or check out a gas station, they’re always hiring, and if it goes sour no one cares that you got fired from a 7 11.
Your other choice, is thrifty unemployment. Skating the streets should have, by now, given you plenty of interactions with the homeless. Take notes, these guys are the creme de la creme of unemployment. Sifting through trash bins for recyclables, reselling bus tickets left on the ground, and panhandling outside of the 7 11 you could be working at. Seems to work though right? Ive never seen hobos that looks like the starving kids on the sappy latenight commercials. Do what they do, and do me a favor, let me know how long it took you to save up for a new deck, I’ve always wondered what those guys pull in for a days ‘work.’
There are two ways to do this with way less effort though. Have good begging skills and rich parents, or get really good and find a company that will give you those decks for free. So chances are, you’ll need the first two options. Lucky for you, The House has completes that start at $49.95!
