Etnies Rainforest

It’s hard to buy a shoe, shirt or deck these days without seeing a little green leaf somewhere on the packaging that says one of several generically green sentences. “Made from water bottles!” “100% biodegradable” “Negative carbon footprint!” These things are all great, really, but there is one label out there who believes in action more than words.

Over the weekend, brand CEO and owner Pierre-André Senizergues, team riders Ryan Sheckler, Kyle Leeper, Chris Del Moro, CJ Kanuha and Benji Weatherly, along with members of the Costa Rican Maleku tribe broke ground on the Etnies Rainforest. Deep in the northern region of Costa Rica, an area that had been ravaged by deforestation received the first of 150 trees that will comprise the rainforest and help maintain the Maleku tribe’s way of life.

The trees come straight from shoe sales in the Etnies Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree program wherein specific shoe purchases buy one of the little saplings that make it into Ryan Scheckler’s hands as he rolls around in the Central American dirt. Globally, Etnies plans on planting 35,000 trees through sales of the Jameson Eco 2.

Coincidentally, we here at The House have a few colorways of the Jameson ourselves. And next time you head down to shred Witch’s Rock or Ollie Point, be sure to swing by the La Reserva Forest Foundation and plant a tree yourself, and maybe your branches will tangle with those of the Etnies Rainforest. Visit Etnies for a more info on the Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree program.
