Vice Magazine's Definitive Guide To Jibbing

By Published On: October 13th, 20110 Comments

Vice Magazine recently wrestled their preferred domain name from the grasp of the porn industry, and their new site is full of the type of journalism that our generation cares most about. Intriguing topics on the site right now range from Haitian zombies to tattooing your friends, and they also have this nice little documentary about the Nixon JibFest and the origins of snowboard jibbing.

As you know, the JibFest returned last season to Northstar-at-Tahoe, and Vice was there capturing the behind-the-scenes on and off the hill, and providing a whole batch of interviews with the guys who started it all for a history lesson that is actually worth paying attention to.

Vice works in these relatively long video segments, and this is just part one. The Nixon JibFest coverage is just a small part of their larger Powder & Rails franchise that keeps tabs on all sorts of skate and snow news.

This edit provides a little intro to the early days of jibbing, giving most of the credit to the Tahoe scene, and features interviews with the riders, some classic footage, and insight from enigmatic members of the snowboard media like Snowboarder Magazine Editor-in-Chief Pat Bridges.

Head on over to Vice.com for more episodes as they roll out in due time, and make sure you take a healthy block of free time with you, because they have some of the best content on the entire internet and it’s all too easy to spend hours watching their videos and reading their articles.
