If you’ve ever been to an industry party and needed a conversation starter with anyone, the TransWorld Exposure Meter discussion is always a safe bet. The meter is a comprehensive equation that adds together the editorial content and advertising content that each rider receives in the major magazines. Major being the operative word here, so if you made the local paper on Go Skateboarding Day don’t expect to see yourself on the list. The big players, say for skateboarding as an example, are Transworld, Skateboarder, Thrasher, and The Skateboard Mag.

These rankings essentially rate the marketability of action sports stars, so industry folk love talking about that side of things, especially if it’s a team rep with a rider on the chart. The August rankings just dropped, so here’s a little recap to keep you in the know.

Sean Malto has been topping the skate meter for a few months now with Ryan Decenzo behind him in 2nd. Gilbert Crocket entered the top 5 this month too, so it’s safe to assume that he’ll be going pro any day now. Mike Anderson and Chris Cole round out the top bracket.

For the water boys, Dane Reynolds and Mick Fanning are at the top, with young gun Kolohe Andino charging out of San Clemente and into the top 3.

As for snow, the editorial season has just begun, so you can be sure that TW has got some interns tallying pages as those first issues are hitting the newsstands. the 09/10 season wrapped up with Gigi Ruf as the big winner, followed by Scotty Lago, Pat Moore, Shaun White and Danny Davis. Lots of east coasters at the top, no surprise there, but take a look kids…the top guys out there aren’t the ones hitting the biggest handrails, go drop in to the stunt ditch or build a booter once in a while!

Check out Transworld for the complete rankings.
