Young Burne Carraway puts his head down and lifts his nose in the Jibassic Park

Boreal may not be the first place that one would think to visit in the Tahoe area, but making the short journey from the west coast to this little jewel is worth putting on your to do list. Boreal is reminiscent of the ski hills back east, but with California’s snow. These guys pack as much fun as possible into the 41 trails and 6 lifts while also promoting good times into the evening with night riding. It’s like Netflix on a Redbox budget.

They have the requisite quiver of jibs to keep the short sticks happy and jumps along the chairline so you can impress the babes. Their Jibassic park is full of stair sets, butter boxes, and fun-size stuff to learn on, and the recent loads of now that swept through California over the holidays left them with a bunch of snow that’s being pushed into a halfpipe as you read this.

The top shelf thing about Boreal though, that really sets this little place apart, is the vibe around the mountain. There are no ‘mountain hosts’ or grumpy mogul skiers here to yell at you for jumping a slow sign, tail tapping trail signage, or any of the other fun things you do to entertain yourself on your way back to the park.

They’re claiming 84″-160″ inches right now, and there’s fresh turns still to be found in the corners of the woods. Check out Boreal.com for more details on passes and current conditions.
