How To Get The Shot

Dan Brisse Works Holidays

Everyone has that one feature that they look at all the time, wishing that there was some way to get a chance at hitting it, even though it’s a huge bust. It’s like a unicorn that you’re always chasing, dreaming about slaying. But all the gnarliest stuff is always somewhere worthless, like in front of a police station or the busiest intersection in town. Rejoice, young unicorn-seeker, your shot at glory is fast approaching.

Cancel your New Year’s Eve plans if you’re serious about getting the shot, because while everyone else is celebrating, and recovering the next day, you should have plenty of time to get in, get the shot, and get out. Practically everyone, including most security guards, have New Year’s Eve and/or Day off from work. So for about 36 hours this weekend the world is your oyster. Sure you’ll miss out on some champagne and fireworks, but imagine the look on your boys faces when they see your footage!

Many pros have recently used New Year’s Day as their big urban day of the winter and come out with some impressive stuff. Most of the recent work has involved parking garages, since they almost always have surveillance and security. Lucas Magoon bagged himself an ender a couple years back on New Years, and Dan Brisse started working on the cover you just scrolled past last New Years. He ended up getting the shot on Easter Sunday though, which is a great backup, but the snow doesn’t always last so long.

So use this week to scout it out, get all the logistics down—i.e. snow, filmer, bungee, etc. Then hit up the local mountain and make sure your skills are on point and start 2011 off with a banger, then post a link to your shot in the comments and we’ll see who owned it hardest!
