Woodward at Tahoe Opens

Woodward Tahoe opened it’s doors this weekend.  Various pro athletes including Mike Vallely, Todd Richards, Zac Hale, Hannah Teter, Tanner Hall and Tony Hawk pumped the local crowd up – the ceremony was nothing but grand.

Why is the new Woodward called Woodward Tahoe?  Clearly the 33k sq. ft. Bunker is located in the parking lot of Boreal Mountain.  The Woodward at Copper is named Woodward at Copper for one main reason – it’s located at Copper Mountain.  Anyway…sitting on top of lovely Donner Pass is Boreal Mountain, home of the nation’s oldest ski and snowboard club, Auburn Ski & Snowboard Club.  Sitting in the parking lot of Boreal is Woodward Tahoe.

Woodward Tahoe will be the training juggernaut’s 5th location to open.  Woodward West is in Tehachapi, CA and acutally has a boarding school intergraded.  Woodward Beijing is the only international location and can hold half of China’s population in it’s dinning hall.  Woodward at Copper is of course at the base of Copper Mountain, CO – It’s ran by former US Olympic Gymnast Phoebe Mills & her husband Rick Shimpeno (Gold Medalist Ross Powers’ old coach).  The original Camp Woodward is located, as the crow flies, 29 miles East of Bellefonte, PA.

Woodward at Boreal, um… I mean Woodward Tahoe will take the already talented riders from Dylan Omlin’s Aubrun Ski & Snowboard Club and make them Jedi’s.  Ryan Stassel, Dash Kamp, Caty O’Conner, and Easton Gilman are already on the up and coming journey, but after the 13’/14′ season they’ll be throwing hammer with more strength than Thor.

If you plan on visiting Woodward Tahoe do it between late February and mid March.  Tahoe hasn’t received any good early season snow for the last couple of years, and you definitely don’t want to go in the heart of Winter (Google Donner Party).  If Donner Pass gets more than 5″ of fresh the California Department of Transportation requires chains or shuts down I-80.  Spring riding at Boreal is the best, and what ever you do, do not stay at the Boreal Mountain Lodge – the Belarusians that run it are crazy.  Seriously.
