US Open of Snowboarding

Flying down a hill hitting jumps, rails, or halfpipe and doing tricks has become quite popular over the years. Now, there is a contest every weekend, each claiming to be this championship or that world title or look how many TTR stars we are. This weekend, however, marks the real deal. The Burton US Open of Snowboarding has been around since snurfing and is widely respected as the best event of the year— both for the spectators and the competitors.

To get in, you can be already established as a professional and earn a bid through other contest wins. The rest of the population can get in too, even if you’ve never had a single hook up in your life. Early in the season you enter a lottery and if your number gets called then its off to Stratton to battle on the big stage.

A US Open win can rocket young up-and-comers into the spotlight and will always be a highlight of their contest resume. Thanks to the tech-savvy fellas at Burton, you can scout all the young talent out there via the webcast…starting today! Slopestyle semifinals will thin out the field and tomorrow the same is done for halfpipe. On Saturday, the creme de la creme tries to rise to the top of the slopestyle podium and Sunday we crown this year’s halfpipe champion.

As an added bonus, there is always a Saturday night contest too. It has been going back and forth between quarterpipe and rail jam for years now, and 2011 has landed us a rail jam and the set up is always a top-notch technical display.

Check out Burton’s US Open webcast here all weekend.
