Review: K2 Slayblade Snowboard

Dave here talking about the K2 Slayblade snowboard. New snowboard for K2 this year, definitely incorporating a lot of new features for them. First off you’ve got their Flat Line technology. This is something that very few companies are doing, but K2 definitely is one of the originators of this. Flat Line basically means that the snowboard is completely flat. It’s not cambered, and it’s not rockered. It’s in between, kind of the best of both worlds!

From there, you’ve got the Hybrilight construction. It is almost a full on cap, with the top sheet wrapping very very close to the snowboard edge. But then to promote durability and to promote edge hold, they do put a tiny side wall along there. It’s going to make it durable and then, you know, hold up good on those icy, hard packed terrains.

From there, you’ve got the Harshmellow built into the top of the snowboard; nice soft bubbles right underneath the base plate area. It’s going to take up a lot of the shock and is going to help absorb those icy landings. It’s a twin snowboard with a slightly set back stance. It is set one back. You can definitely ride it completely twinned out, or you can set it back a little bit if you are going to be in the good stuff.

From there, you’ve got sintered base with both sublimated and die cut features on it. Definitely got a lot of pop to this base but it’s going to be really fast, it’s going to absorb a lot of wax. From there, it’s going to get faster throughout the life of the snowboard. Also, you’ve got torsion forks in the K2 boards that are going to run from the snowboard binding area out to the contact points, something that allows them to mill their wood core a little bit thinner in those areas.

The carbon is very, very strong. It provides a lot of pop too. Basically it’s going to act as a leaf spring, giving you extra pop off the jump or springing you from turn to turn. It’s really effective from taking the energy from the snowboard binding positions directly to the point of contact at the nose and the tail. It’s something that they do on a lot of their snowboards, but this one definitely is going to be a very, very high end freestyle snowboard. You know, works good in the park. Not exactly your rail and box snowboard, but like larger table tops, pipe, backcountry, freestyle, or just hauling anywhere else in the mountain. It’s definitely going to be a really, really good snowboard for that. It’s won a ton of rewards. K2 Slayblade snowboard.
