Moving Forward – Snowboard Video

If it wasn’t for his helmet, Burton team rider Kevin Pearce (KP) would most likely not be alive today. In December of 2009, while training for the Olympics, KP suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) while attempting a Cab Double Cork in the halfpipe. Finally after a year and 11 months the doctors gave KP the O.K. to get back out and ride. Hundreds of people showed up to support Kevin during his first day back on the snow, including Jake Burton, Founder of Burton Snowboards.

“To get to this point in his recovery, Kevin has worked harder and has had more determination than anyone I know.  His positive attitude and sense of humor through it all has inspired millions of people, including me personally in a big way. I couldn’t be happier to be here with Kevin to get back on snow with him. It was a day I’ll never forget.” -said Jake Burton

KP was not the first and definitely will not be the last to suffer a TBI while snowboarding. On January 3rd, 2011 Danny Toumarkine took a horrific fall while riding in Montana. Danny was lifted by helicopter to a local hospital where he spent the next 33 days undergoing not one, but four brain surgeries. Just like Kevin Pearce, Danny is very lucky to be alive. “Moving Forward” is the full length documentary about the time before, during, and after his injury and was just released on January 10th, 2012. Visit dannyisthebomb.com to find out more about Danny’s Story.
