K2 Gyrator Snowboard Review

By Published On: November 10th, 20100 Comments

The  K2 Gyrator. This thing is pretty rad. It’s got a lot of rocker to it. It actually has was called the Powder baseline rocker system. It has 50 percent of flat in between the bindings and an additional 50 percent of rocker on the nose and tail; 25 percent on each.

It has a Hybrilight construction, which means that this thing has the same thickness core throughout the nose, throughout the tail, and throughout the whole board. So you are not going to see a super-thick sidewall and have it gradually taper down. It actually can be the same thickness throughout the whole thing.

The stance is set back 1 inch, but that’s alright because it has hyper progressive shape which means that whether you’re going fast or going slow this things going to have an edge and it has the new K2 BAMBOOYAH blend construction. If you skate you know that bamboo holds a lot of good skates together and they decided to put the technology in this laminate bamboo core blend with a wood core that’s tip to tail with urathane skin honeycomb. This thing actually has three pieces of urathane skin honeycomb so this things going to pretty much be bomb proof. It has the tri-lance fiberglass which means there is going to be three different 35 degree angled pieces of fiberglass that sandwich the wood core and the BAMBOOYAH core in this thing. Its going to be a rad board and I think one of my favorite features about it is the Harshmellow.

If you don’t know what the Harshmellow is yet, the Harshmellow is a dampening system that K2 has designed to put underneath the bindings. Can you see that right there? If your riding 30 foot cliffs or you’re bomb dropping off a parking lot these things are going to damper and soften your landing and just cause for less vibrations. A sintered base, which means this thing is going to stay fast all the time it’s going to absorb wax a little bit longer than most other boards with other bases and has a 1 degree base bevel. This thing’s gonna be pretty rad. I can’t wait to take this out and jam on this all day. The K2 Gyrator.

Today we have the K2 Gyrator snowboard, our ultimate powder board in the K2 line. It offers our powder rocker. It has a flat section underneath the foot, so that there’s still good hard snow stability, but it has a lot of rocker on the tip and the tail. This allows the board to float like a water-ski on nice soft days. The board also has our Harshmellow dampening right underneath the binding to smooth out the ride for the rider and to make it feel silky smooth on the groomers. It is designed to be a powder board, but do not underestimate it. It rips on the groomers too.
