43 Magazine Launches

Remember the days before the internet? When instant gratification just meant landing your first kickflip pushing out of the driveway, instead of knowing who has the ender in the next big video before it even comes out? Or knowing the winning trick at a contest the minute four wheels hit the ground? In these nostalgic times of days gone by, you waited patiently by the mailbox for your magazine subscription to show up, and you got fresh photographs and witty words about your favorite professional skaters and their globetrotting adventures. These days it seems like some magazines out there are just regurgitations of content that you’ve already seen on the internet, but 43 Magazine is out to change that.

Based in New York City (still the world’s greatest skateboarding city) 43 Magazine recently held a launch party for their premiere issue in WeHo, and they’re planning on having this sort of art gallery/launch party every other month when fresh pages hit the newsstand. Allen Ying’s video here is from the KickStarter campaign he used to get the necessary funds to get this thing off the ground. If you’ve ever had an awesome idea of your own, by the way, KickStarter is the place to get some financial backing, so check those guys out too.

43 Magazine is available in skateshops everywhere, but with the artsy, grassroots feel of the mag we’re sure they’ll go quick. Keep an eye on 43magazine.com or find them on Facebook for news about upcoming shows. With the first one in New York, we can only assume that the next one will be in San Francisco, but you keep crossing those fingers and maybe it’ll be your town.
