Who was it that invented the butter? Was it Jussi? Laying down butter-to-back nines in the Robot Food videos. Someone will surely correct us on the comment boards, but for all intents and purposes, Jussi gets credit right now. Thus making him the forefather of the Red Bull Butter Cup. This contest series has a flavor all its own and has been hitting both cities and mountains across the country all winter long.
The set-up usually features a few side-by-side obstacles, like your average rail jam, but these aren’t just rails. They have these super slippery butter boxes that are a little reminiscent of things like picnic tables and skate ramps. All you have to do butter ’em up to take home top honors. Every contest series out there will tell you that style counts, but does it really? Did the kid who got 2nd place by front flipping off the box do it with style? Here, steez really does please, and the smoother your bag of mini-tricks is, the better you’ll finish. In fact, your trick won’t even count unless part of your combo includes some buttering.
If you think you’ve got the technical tactics tamed, check out the remaining schedule below, and we’ll see you at the finals.
