On August 14 Chicago’s own, Matt Lennert, will make history and SUP across Lake Michigan on a 50 mile journey across the open water. The paddle is intended to increase awareness of the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding and raise money for two local charities, Common Threads and the Alliance for the Great Lakes. Matt will paddle from St. Joseph, Michigan to Chicago in a trip that will take between 10-16 hours. No Chicagoan has done this crossing before.

In support of the paddle crossing and the charities, there will be a series of parties and events throughout the summer that people can participate in. Windward is fully on board with Matt’s journey. To help him out, we will be throwing an official fundraiser event here at the shop. Mark your schedules to come out to Windward on Thursday, July 7th from 6-9pm to meet Naish pro team riders Chuck Patterson and Karen Wren for an evening of food, drinks, music and charity. Your charitable contribution will also enter you in a raffle with some killer prizes. Details on the fundraiser and raffle will be announced in the next few days so stay tuned!
