Burton Snowboards founded by Jake Burton in 1977 is one of the most recognized snowboard companies in the world. Jake began experimenting with different snowboard ideas based off the ‘Snurfer’ invited by Sherman Poppen. He first started making boards by hand in the his garage and later moved to a factory in Vermont.

After campaigning multiple local resorts, in 1982 Suicide Six became the first mountain to allow snowboarding. Soon after many resorts followed suit and as they began accepting snowboarding so did the public.

Burton Snowboards soon began to go world wide, starting in 1985 with their European Division in Innsbruck, Austria and then in 1994 they expanded to Japan. In 1992, staying close to their roots, Burton relocated its main headquarters to Burlington, Vermont.

Burton produces snowboards, bindings, boots, outerwear, apparel and snow accessories, as well as owning multiple other snow/skate related companies. Burton has revolutionized the sport with trend setting technology and a team of some of the best riders in the world, including Shaun White.
