The weather is beginning to turn here in Chicago and stand up paddle season is finally upon us. Join us on June 1st from 9am-4pm for our learn to row and SUP day with our friends over at the Lincoln Park Boat Club (LPBC) for a day of free SUP, rowing and BBQ. The event will take place at the Lincoln Park Lagoon which is one of the most scenic views in the city and one of a kind for paddling.
Throughout the day, LPBC and Windward will be hosting a series of demos and training sessions that cover the basics of sweep rowing, stand up paddle boarding and SUP yoga. The lessons will continue on each hour from 9-4pm with a free BBQ at 12pm. The SUP yoga class will take place at 1pm and is hosted by Windward’s resident SUP yoga instructor, Mary Lou Cerami. Lessons are open to all skill levels and free for anyone to participate.
If you are a seasoned SUP rider or just looking to get in the sport, this is the perfect event for you. We’ll have our fleet of demo boards on hand including a range of boards from Naish SUP and C4 Waterman.
Reservations are full but we are starting a first come first SUP system. Plan on showing up and we will fit you in.
Getting to Lincoln Park Boat Club
We encourage our members to take the CTA, walk, bike, or roller blade to the club – parking can be a hassle and expensive especially on the weekends.
You can walk a brief distance from the Fullerton Red/Brown CTA stop as well as the #77 Fullerton bus.
The #22 & #36 will drop you off at Clark & Webster and then you can walk through the Zoo to the lagoon and then north to the boat house.
The #151, #156 will drop you off at Stockton & Webster and then you can walk through the Zoo to the lagoon and then north to the boat house.
Parking:
For those who will drive, parking in the park is free provided you find a space. Please allocate extra time for this. There is also parking available in the Zoo parking lot, there is also parking at the Diversey Harbor, a bit of a walk, but cheaper rates.
