Thanks to everyone that came out to the Big Scary Push Longboard Race! We had an awesome time seeing some crazy costumes and solid boarding. The race was a solid turnout with over 80 registered racers and over 100 folks in the area. Congrats to ‘the ref’ and ‘wonder woman (man)’ for first and second place in the 8.8 mile trek. Also, congrats to Windward’s own, Andrew Lynch for taking 2nd place in the hippy jump completing a 4.5 foot leap. Stay tuned for more push races from the folks over at the Big Scary Push, we’ll be back representing again come spring/summer 2013.  Check out some choice photos from the event below:

When it comes to Chicago longboard races, the dedicated team over at Chicago Push Races is the crew to get talk to. Having put on the original Clark St. Bomb in the summer of 2011, Chicago Push is now taking on their 4th race with the second annual Big Scary Push longboard race.  Sponsors include heavy hitters like Loaded Longboards, Orangatang Wheels, Never Summer, Landyachtz, Rayne and many others. This year, Windward is proud to join in on supporting our local longboard community and will be there on hand to help spread the stoke on this spooky of spookiest races.

Why do we keep saying it’s going to be spooky? We’ll this race isn’t like others around the world you might have seen in the past. The Big Scary Push is a full fledged 8.8 mile longboarding costume party! In no other venue will you see a panda try to out gun dracula in a battle of speed and endurance. Here are just a few things going on for this year’s race:

  • It will be a 4 lap (2.2 mile per lap) race around Humbolt Park
  • Costumes are strongly encouraged – Helmets are required!
  • Registration starts at 11am at the corner of North Ave and California in Humbolt Park
  • Winners will be announced for best costume, best picture, fastest man, fastest woman and fastest grom
  • Windward Boardshop will be on hand and that usually means even more free stuff

New for 2012 is a best photo contest with the winner taking home a Never Summer complete! How does the photo contest work?

  • After the race, send your top three photos from the race, your name and contact info directly to the Big Scary Push Facebook page.
  • Entries must arrive before 7pm CT on Tuesday, Oct, 30th and MUST be your honest photos
  • An album will be posted on the BSP facebook page where a like contest will begin.
