Please never stop making these!
Simply the best light hiker I've ever owned. Now on my third pair, and not from lack of durability, just LOTS of miles on them! Always comfortable and ready to go right out of the box, light weight, mid-height with just enough support. The waterproofing of the Gore-tex tends to fade after a year or two, but even then it is still better than something not Gore-tex. For day hikes and working outdoors this is my go-to boot, as it provides a great feeling of agility and all day comfort. For backpacking with heavy loads I tend to go for something with a little more support.

Good fit and great protection for my ankles
I purchased these for my new job. I needed a pair of black shoes/boots and I would be walking in town, urban neighborhoods and suburban neighborhoods. Many of the neighbors I walk around in are in rough shape, with missing and broken sidewalks, small sink holes and a lot of debris and trash. In the past month I've had a half dozen times I would have twisted or sprained an ankle due to broken pavement, ice slick streets and unkempt yards and sidewalks. The X Ultra 3 Mid's have kept me injury free and warm and dry. I mainly got these for the winter months as I love my X Ultra 3 hiking shoes, but will continue to where the Mid's for their comfort and protection from ankle injuries.

Find a better hiking boot...go ahead, try.
I certainly haven't been able to. I've tried a dozen different boots over my lifetime. This one is the most comfortable boot I've ever owned. It is a confident hiker with great support, traction, & cushion. The lacing system is lock-tight. The ankle is strong but flexible. Performs excellent in wet/muddy conditions - feet stay totally dry. I have 3 pairs: one with 100's of miles on them that I use for yard work, one for backpacking/hiking, and another one just in case armageddon comes and they stop making these. ;-)

Wonderful Boots
This is the 3rd pair of X Ultra Mids I've owned. The previous two pair were the 2nd gen models. They were great boots that lasted one year of everyday use at work. My job has me walking on hot asphalt, slick tile flooring, hours of trails, shallow water crossings and days spent in the rain. Through all of this my feet stay well supported and dry. I've owned several other pairs of boots that claimed to be waterproof. None have come close to my three pairs of X Ultra GTX boots. These are the only boots I purchase for work. The only difference between the 2nd model and the 3rd is that there are two rows of the open shoe string eyelets on the newest model; verses only one row on the older model. I don't think two rows is necessary. One row quickly opened the boot enough for me; however I'm sure there are others who require this feature. Sorry for the book... These are the best boots I've ever owned.

Incredible boot
We do most of our hiking in the white mountains of New Hampshire which means we hike in widely variable conditions. From sun, to rain to snow, sometimes all in the same day. This isn't the first boot I've had that has been able to keep my feet comfortable, dry and warm no matter what nature throws at us. This has become my year round boot!

Quality Boot but with a narrow toe box
A high quality boot. Seemed very comfortable at first, but on my first hike the narrow toe box really pinched my feet and proved just too uncomfortable and torturous to wear. I was wearing a pair of micro crew hikers in Cool Max so the thickness of the socks was not the problem. I was surprised by the issue with the width as I've never required a wide width in a shoe or a boot. After I purchased the boot, I noticed Salomon now makes the X Ultra in a wide width. Wish I had known that before purchasing. Would advise anyone who wears a regular width shoe or boot to actually try on the regular and the wide widths before purchasing so you don't get stuck with an unusable product.

weak stitching
Great fit and really comfy. Gortex Waterproofing seems to work but the stitching has failed me after only a handful of walks which has compromised the water tight needs of the boot.

I think I finally found them...
I'm pretty sure I'm in love. I've been going through different brands and models of hiking shoes/boots trying to find one that finally doesn't beat my feet up. I live in far west Texas, where it's a mixture of scree, jagged rocks, hard pack dirt, and sand. You really need a "jack of all trades" boot for hiking out here. Up until this point, other brands have just been leaving me limping by the end of my 6-8 mile hikes through the desert.

I bought these because I've read that the arch support is exceptional, and that's what most of my footwear has been missing. I took a leap of faith and ordered them offline without getting to try them on. Right out of the box, just putting them on in my house, I was almost smiling. They are extremely comfortable. The arch support is definitely there.

So far I have worn them for about 20 miles of hiking over 3 different day hikes (I use hiking for exercise, so just stick to 3-4 hour hikes a few times a week,) so I can't officially comment on the durability of the upper or outsole, but for performance and comfort, they are kicking butt so far.

The only minor complaint I have is that I wish the aero version came in more colors. I know looks are the least important aspect for hiking footwear, but I just am not digging the aero's looks, so I bought the GTX; which having mentioned that I live in the desert, I do have to spray my feet with antiperspirant deodorant to avoid sweating a gallon of water into my shoes. So I will either get over the looks aspect, or keep my fingers crossed that Salomon updates the aero version soon. Regardless - kudos, Salomon. I don't think I'll need to try another brand again.

Surprised at how good they are
I’ve owned a lot of other trail shoes/boots and I always thought that they were top of the line. However, Salomon has increased the bar and set the standard for what a solid boot should be.
