Outstanding Dichotomy: Lightweight, Beefy Boots
I have now over 350 miles of hiking and Sierra Nevada backpacking in my 3DX version of these excellent boots. They are tall, with plenty of ankle protection from scree, dirt, etc..., truly waterproof when hiking on wet trails or crossing shallow water and decently breathable in hot weather with a liner/merino sock combo. The sole holds up and dry traction is great. Wet traction on the older (now replaced soles was only "okay". The rock liner or bruise protections are very good.

The toe box is wide. Very nice for extended mileage and balance.

The **sizing is small per U.S. standards**: go up a size at least. For example, I run in a 13 New Balance, but fit 14 in these Salomon and their running shoes.

Comfortable, warm and keeps your feet dry.
I have a little over 100 miles on my Salomon boots now. Out of the box i put 20 miles on them and not 1 blister. A great pair of socks and these boots i can walk in 10 degree snow all day long without getting my feet cold or wet. Very comfortable, lightweight boots.

Fantastic Backpacking Boot
I bought these just over a year ago and a month later I started my 500 mile trip on the AT with them. I stomped through streams, mud and snow and through rainy days and eventually, after several months of abuse, they started to develop a leak at the tongue base and the top of my feet would end up just a little wet at the crease there. I contacted customer service about it and was provided a code for a new pair which are on there way to me now. I am looking forward to pushing this new pair to the limits like I did with the last ones. These are an absolutely fantastic and comfortable boot!

I have two pairs of these boots. I’ve used them for work, hiking, marathon distance rucking events and hunting. Overall one of the best footwear purchases I have ever made!!

Great fit, lousy durability
I really like the comfortable fit of these boots. The toe box is roomy and the upper provides great ankle support. In fact, I like them so much, I’ve been willing to overlook the terrible lack of quality of the soles. I’m on my third pair this year, having purchased a pair last summer, replaced those in February and then replaced that pair in April, and then replaced that pair in July. That actually makes four pair but the first pair lasted for about 300 miles of hiking so I’m not counting those. The February pair lasted less than 100 miles! Admittedly I’m hard on boots and we were in rough rocky terrain but I’ve never, in decades of owning hiking boots seen such poor quality. The pictures are of the April pair, worthless after 2 months. The sole splits on the side and none of the glues I’ve tried prevent it from tearing away and continually splitting. Come on Salomon, get some quality material for the soles to match the overall quality of the rest of the boot. If this latest pair results in the same problem, I will find a less comfortable fit that lasts.

Disappointed
The QUEST sole split apart one inch in from the outer area in the fore foot. I wore five days on duty when this happened. The terrain I work in is harsh and rugged. I heard great things about these boots but was disappointed in it's durability.

Pros:
Comfort is outstanding. I give it a 10 for that.

Support is great on the ankle, heal, arch, and forefoot. 10. Best boot I've worn is that regard.

Performance is great. The grip it has going up and down mountains was better than expected. 10

At the end of the day that's boots offer great protection and reduce fatigue on joints. 10

Good looking boot as well. 10.

Cons:
Durability was a disappointment. Get a 1. Five days on duty and didn't hold up.

Great company, diminished quality
I’ve been using this boot for about a month now. Was great in the snow and melting snow. Also pretty comfortable. But after the first 3 weeks some of the rubber is already tearing and moisture is getting in. Haven’t gone through any rough terrain, just snow/ice and water. This is my 4th different pair of Salomon’s I’ve owned and loved them all. Little disappointed with the quality of these and as well as my last pair with similar quality issues in a short amount of time being worn

Comfortably Disappointed
I purchased these boots thinking they would be great like the reviews I read, but was sorely disappointed. The boots for the price point are not what I envisioned a product from Salomon to be. After approximately 3-4 weeks the rubber toe cap on both boots began to separate from the leather. I have submitted a warranty claim and will be interested to see how they rectify the situation. The one positive attribute I can say is that they are a comfortable boot once broken in.

Best Boots I Have Ever Worn
I am a member of the Kauai K9 Search and Rescue team and put these boots through some crazy tropical rainforest conditions. I’ve owned many different types of boots and these are the best boots I have ever owned. They take some time to break in but once they get broken in they are super comfortable. I have a weak ankle and roll it often. I am on my second pair and have never rolled my ankle wearing these boots. The ankle support is great. My only complaint is once they get stinky the smell never goes away.

Not Durable
I bought this product 3 months ago and did not last very long. The sole on the Salomon 4D is failing. The boot is very comfortable but it does have the defect.
