I found these shoes to be extremely comfortable to wear. As previously mentioned, they are suitable for all terrain types. The mesh material on the inside of the shoes didn’t cause any blisters when running and the overall effect was comfortable.

Weighing only 235 grams, these shoes made running feel so effortless and enjoyable. It is easy to forget that you are wearing the shoes with such and secure and comfortable fit.

With the small holes on the outside of the shoes, air could get into the shoes easily and this prevented sweat quite well. At the same time, outside water was kept out well and it didn’t let the cold air in. Overall, the balance created was optimum. This made the shoes a pleasure to wear in the sun and in the cold and rain.

As these shoes aren’t exactly low or mid range, obviously high quality materials have been used in the production of these shoes. One useful feature is the anti-blister material which works extremely well. I also found the padded area located around the ankle which made for added comfort.

The laces provided are extremely comfortable and the perfect material for laces. They spread out evenly across the surface of the top of the shoe. This makes the shoes fit extremely securely and efficiently in the best way possible.

Checks All the boxes for an outstanding shoe
Day one and these went straight to the track. 1.5 mile/2400m warm up followed by 8 times 400 meter repeats, finishing with 1.5 mile/2400m cool down.
The fit: First is the brilliant fit of the midfoot upper which is an easy 10. It locks you in place in absolute comfort. The mid-foot construction/fit is a major advantage over similar models on the market. The laces only add to that comfort locking you in with very evenly distributed pressure (or lack thereof feeling and they stayed tied. Toe space is spot on allowing for the right amount of room and no rubbing after 52 miles thus far. The heel counter and cushioned collar are brilliant and are immediately comfortable.
Construction: the two shining qualities are the upper material, super breathable yet very supportive and the sole makes for a fantastic ride.
Performance: So you get a response - fast transitioning shoe that doesn't beat you up. The sole construction with "Vibe" leaves you feeling fresh. I've taken them to 13 miles/21km on the road thus far and can easily see these going on back to back 30 mile/ 48km runs (which I used to do with the S-Lab X-Series, Sonic 1's and 2's).
While not mentioned as trail shoe I can easily see these on the feet of trail runners racing on buffed out trails even on longer distance stuff. It checks all the boxes for a great buffed out and fast trail shoe that is light. It's an amazing shoe packed in such little weight.

A areat running shoe with some problems
Sonic RA Pro feels reactive and is well enough cushioned even for longer runs. It is light and fast, but it feels much more of a daily trainer (in a good way) than for example S/Lab Sonic 2. The cutout for the inner ankle bone goes a little lower than in S/Lab Sonic 2 and I think this model can be a better fit for narrow bony ankles. It has also a very nice and good heel lockdown.

Round fat laces can be tightened properly too keep your foot locked, but they are quite long. I definitely need to do extra knot to keep them out of my way. If Salomon thinks somebody needs this long laces, maybe they could provide "normal length" laces as default and put longer laces into the box for those who need them. In any case the shoe definitely seems to be built well and it will last for a long time.

There is one very annoying problem - the outsole. It collects all the small rocks! I don't understand how a company like Salomon, whose special competence is trail running can make such a mistake. I run in gravel and asphalt roads and there is basically always a lot of small rocks that get stuck into outsole grooves. It is pretty annoying to consider the shoe is quite expensive. I haven't had this problem with any other Salomon shoes. So if you run in the environments like this I might consider some other shoe, because you can sometimes really feel the small rocks scratching the asphalt road that have gotten stuck on the outsole.

The picture attached is taken just after one 10km run, for which only the first 3km of the gravel road in the beginning and then the rest of 7km on the asphalt road. I had cleaned all the rocks before this run. Salomon really needs to sort this problem out for the 2nd version and do a little better testing for the shoe to iron out these kind of annoyances.

The sizing is definitely bigger than S/Lab Sonic 2 for which I have to wear 41 1/3 and for this I have 40 2/3. So keep this in mind if buying online. I wish Salomon would have a little more consistent sizing, considering that I have tried different models and the proper size can be either of these two. For those who wonder what size you are I have 41 1/3 in Adidas Boston 6 to give some reference. I know it could be argued that maybe this shoe is actually true-to-size compared to these other models :)

Fixing these issues would make a very good running shoe.

Also I must point out that Salomon online store policy is a way behind Adidas and Nike, which offer free returns and you can even try the shoes and return them if you are not completely satisfied. Adidas 100 days returns vs. Salomon 14 days. There really is no comparison. Considering this it is super hard to recommend buying Salomon shoes from their online store to a person who doesn't know exactly what they want. Salomon needs to upgrade this at least to 30 day free returns! I personally bought these shoes from Helsinki Salomon Store.

p.s. I am happy to do the testing for free, if you just send me the prototype shoes :)

Light, soft and great support.
I have been running all winter in my S Lab trail shoes but was looking for a road sneaker. This shoe has a very ample toe box, great support and really locks in the heal nicely. Surprisingly soft considering how light the shoe is. Kudos to the designers.

Great for roads and training
I train in a wide variety of disciplines, and these shoes have been super comfortable and lightweight through it all. Road running for long distances, doing circuits and stadium runs, casual wear in the weight room, these have quickly become my go to shoe for training. Super lightweight, durable and they seem pretty stable when I do agility drills. This is also the first running shoe in a while that I haven't felt the need to swap insoles on. A phenomenal shoe.

I Don't Run on the Pavement Often, but When I Do..
Super fun and fast feeling shoe. I only do very short road runs in the mornings to wake myself up, right around 2 miles so I can not say how these hold up on long runs, but they are fantastic for what I do. They fit like a Salomon and appear to have the same quality and durability as all of the trail shoes I have used in the past and present. My only heads up is that these are lace up shoes without the Quicklace system of many other Salomon shoes. Not a big deal at all, the laces are durable and have not slipped once. Fun, comfortable, lightweight shoe!
