Here at Windward we are all really pumped for SUP (stand up paddle) this summer in Chicago. Over the past few years the sport has been gaining in popularity across the world and Chicago offers the perfect venue to create a killer landmark scene. For those who don’t know, SUP is basically surfing with a paddle. Right now Chicago has a few different places on the lake (Montrose Beach and North Ave. Beach), river (Addison/Rockwell) and nearby lagoons (Skokie Lagoons) that allow SUP. The best part is that unlike traditional surfing, SUP is simple enough for ANYONE catch on and have fun the first time out. It is the closest feeling to walking on water you can get!

With that said, we want to introduce our good friend Matt Lennert and his new blog, Windy City Waterman. Matt is an experienced stand up paddler, windsurfer and surfer and he’ll be helping us out with clinics and group paddles this summer. His new blog will be continuously updated with everything that is happening on the water in Chicago this summer. So keep up on the Windy City Waterman blog and windward sessions for more SUP news, knowledge and action.
