Comfortable pack at an outstanding price
I've had this pack for a few weeks now, and was finally able to get it loaded up for my first outing with it. Just shy of ten miles on a low-moderate difficulty trail proved to be a breeze. Despite being relatively out of shape, and well out of practice when it comes to hiking any amount of distance, this pack made carrying a 25+ lbs load a simple task. With a large number of pockets/compartments to work with, organization was extremely simple and made for a sensible and easy to work with load-out. The pack did a terrific job of holding gear in place, and absolutely nothing shifted during those ten miles. Although my back did get drenched, I found breathability to be excellent, and wasn't uncomfortable in the least bit. From a fit and finish standpoint, the bag seems to be well constructed. Pack material feels durable, buckles feel stout, and the the zippers are smooth and effortless. The cordage used on the zipper pulls does feel reminiscent of something you might expect to find on a toy, but that's not necessarily a testament to their durability, just an impression. Like everything, there's always room for improvement. I personally would like to see pockets on the hip belt, as well as accessory attachment points on the shoulder harness - D-rings, webbing, etc. My bag also did not come with a rain cover, which I think it would be a nice gesture on Kelty's part to include one either with the bag, or as a free/discounted upgrade during purchase. Outside of those few shortcomings, I'm more than happy with the pack, and look forward to the many years of use I'm sure I'll get out of it.

Awesome pack great service
First this pack is absolutely outstanding. Not too big and lots of pockets to organize things. The frame stays in this pack help carry a pretty heavy load if you need to but you can also cinch everything down and make it reasonable for a short hike. I contacted customer service to inquire about a hip belt extender and they sent one right out. Very pleased with the pack and even more so with the service. Great product great company. I’d give it 6 stars if I could.

Great pack, great value
This is a serious pack with lots of room. I have each of the Redwings and this is the grand daddy, although I wish they made a Redwing 65 and that all Redwings had with pockets in the hip belt. This is a great pack for camping and travel (checked baggage; remove the hip belt). I consider the Kelty Redwing (40, 44, and 50) the gold standard of serious backpacks due to the quality, adaptability, organization, durability, and price.

Best 50-65L Backpack on the Market!
There isn't much I can say that hasn't been said in 12 pages of reviews, so I'm going to keep it short. 1. I have walked over 15,000 miles wearing this backpack. Needless to say, the perfect fit system does the job. If this pack isn't comfortable to you, you're adjusting it improperly - Watch a video or get help. 2. This is the best backpack you will ever own. Especially if you're looking for a pack in the 40-65L range. I've not had a 65L pack that can hold as much as the Redwing 50, while also keeping things organized. 2. Over the past 30 years, I've probably owned 400 backpacks. Ever since the original Redwing 50, and this newer counterpart, I've not touched another backpack, save for my Camelbak which I use when I'm not planning on walking all day, or when I know the area well enough that I know I don't need more. 3. It is missing 2 things that could easily be added by Kelty, that I would gladly pay more for if they added. 3a. It needs a rainfly pocket. There is plenty of room to add this in. Osprey has one, even Camelbak's outdoor and biking packs have one. 3b. There needs to be at least one zippered pocket on the waist strap. The Redwing 50 has the thickest waist straps I have ever seen that so not include a pocket. I like my snacks Kelty, add a pocket. 4. If you are looking for a weekend pack, a carry on pack, or are a minimalist packer who doesn't want a 110L backpack or their back for a week or more, buy this backpack.

Solid bag
I really enjoyed the bag during my trip. There are a few things I’d like to change about the bag including more easily taking off the waist support. There doesn’t seem to be an easy way to take it off. With that said, the bag seems as advertised.

No Contest
Bought this bag and a competitors bag. Putting the two side by side was a no contest in favor of this bag. Multiple access points to main storage. Side storage spaces. Will be keeping this one and returning the competitors option.

Great Backpack
I bought two of these backpacks as car survival kits and I am very pleased with their quality. I want one now for backpacking to replace a Kelty pack I’ve been using for the last 18+ years.

Perfect
Very comfortable backpack. Used both civilian and military purposes, no claims. The performance is superb, with pockets and fasteners in the right places. Comparing the price and quality, you can say that the backpack went for free.
