Right out of the box to the summit of a 14K peak
What attracted me to these boots (other than the great, throwback design) was that they held my heel down when flexing on an uphill climb. Some of the other, more technical (looking) boots I tried let my heel move around much more than I was comfortable with. Once on the trail, these were fantastic for letting me actually feel the terrain and hike accordingly. I prefer a little sensory feedback, and these were just what I had hoped for. Here are the highlights to be aware of with these boots:

First, I'll echo what everyone else has said - they run large! I'm normally a 10.5 or 11 depending on the shoe. I went with the 10.5 and tried on with my wid-weight hiking socks and they were a great fit.

Second, these are nearly broken-in, right from the box. I bought these just before the weekend, and then hiked a 6 mile rt summit of a 14'er. They were as comfortable as my low-top merrils that i've worn for years.
I will note, that as some others have said in reviews I've read, I did have a little rubbing on the outside ankle of the left boot. Also noticed a slight start of a hot-spot over the very front outside lace rings on the right boot. No blisters mind you, but the only slightly noticeable sensations from the first, out of the box hike. Everyone's foot, stride, etc is different, so YMMV.

Last, the tread on the bottom is not nearly as aggressive looking as many other boots (at least among the others I considered). But I was incredibly impressed by the traction I had from these boots. Here are the most impressive conditions they performed in on my hike:
- stepping into post-holed, icy snowpack on a down hill part of the trail -- these boots had great grip, much to my surprise
- wet, lichen covered mountain boulders are notoriously slick -- these boots again, had amazing grip, and I didn't slip at all.
- everything else in between of course had great traction as well

They kept the water out, were comfortable and provided great grip on the mountain. I'm thrilled!

Great boot right out of the box!
I bought the 4.5" Saddle Tan boot months ahead of our planned hike up Kilimanjaro, so that I would have time to break them in. What actually happened was that I wore them for around 15 minutes the week before in the backyard. Obviously I had a bit of stress surrounding the potential outcome of wearing brand new boots on a 6 day trek. However, those fears dissipated after day 2 of the hike...these boots were unbelievably comfortable, without a blister or even a hot spot for the accent or he decent! The sole was incredibly grippy as well, when required. I am not an avid hiker by any means, I just make decisions rashly and climbing Kilimanjaro was one of those rash decisions. My one great decision was in the purchase of these boots, though. Highly recommended by someone who doesn't really know what they are talking about beyond the comfort that I experienced.

PERFECT right out of the box. Beautiful. Looks like a boot, wears like a sneaker. DEFINITELY order 1/2 size down and you will be happy.

These are awesome
This would be a 5 star review if this was sold as a lifestyle boot. I bought these and the brown rough leather 600's to pick the ones that look the best. These easily won. I get more compliments on these than any boot that I own. I wear a size 12 mountain light in which I like a pretty snug fit. The size 11.5 600 is a perfect roomy fit for me for casual use. I would consider this a lifestyle boot. I do not see myself ever hiking in it. Support is limited for all but the lightest loads and terrain. Great for walks in the park. The Vibram sole offers great cushion. I would HIGHLY recommend this if you want a rugged/cool looking shoe!

Built for comfort NOT performance
I bought these boots since they were lightweight, all leather, and waterproof. I was hoping they could handle being worn for work, and would perform well in the elements since Danner has a good reputation. I was wrong. They didn’t last 3 months. I’m a land surveyor and work in every environment imaginable: asphalt, concrete, dirt, mud, rocks, swamps, snow, etc. They started out great, lots of grip and comfort. Then, 1 month in they started to go down hill. Water proofing stopped working, the boot started to separate from the boot, and now they leather itself is ripping. And that is with conditioning the boot every 2 weeks, which should be plenty since I’ve had “lesser” boots last a year without and conditioning or any care. Oh, I also saw someone rave about the laces. The first pair lasted a week before ripping. Good thing they pack 2 for you. With all that being said, buying this boot depends on what your intentions are. If you want to wear them in a casual setting, to and from an office, grocery shopping, or just around then you’ll love them. They’re extremely comfortable. If you’re looking to put any kind of miles on these in any type of difficult setting, then save your money and look else ware. They’re made for weekend warriors, not anyone working or doing serious hiking.

LOVE THIS BOOT
Bought the Saddle Tan brown leather boot late last year to get a basic hiker. It comes with two colors of laces, the red in the picture and a brown pair which also look great. This is honestly the most useful boot I've ever owned. It's unbelievable comfortable, incredibly grippy and looks amazing. I've worn this boot hiking in the Australian Outback, threw storm storms in New York City and even on the way to the office. It's totally waterproof, breathable, and I can walk all day without my feet hurting. Granted you likely wouldn't use this for hiking with a very heavy backpack, but for 90% of people this boot should work wonders. I find myself grabbing this boot for almost anything from hiking to walking to work in a snow or rainstorm.

Sneaker comfort, boot body, great sole
I own several pairs of Danners (Mountain Light, Mountain Pass), and the 600s did not disappoint. They are nowhere near as sturdy as my other Danners, but they are good to go right out of the box. They wear more like a sneaker, but are responsive on the trail under minimal carry loads. Walked 25 miles across NYC days after I got them in the mail, and rounded out a hike to Springer Mountain on the AT a week later. Let's see how they hold up over time.
