Way back in 1922, an innovative man recognized as Ralph Samuelson decided to try something different on Minnesota’s Lake Pepin by hooking a clothesline to the back of a boat and strapping a pair of boards to his feet as his brother Ben piloted the boat. It took more than a few tries to get it right and determine what techniques to use, but eventually… it worked! A new sport was born. Water skiing has come a long way since!
Water will forever be same, but water skis have progressed tremendously from mere boards of wood. Now, they're as high tech and engineered as any piece of sports equipment, meant to have function and performance at high levels as well as help the person standing on top of them challenge themselves and build their skills as far as time, dedication, and imagination can take them. That's not to say it’s easy; it still takes a rider willing to develop balance, muscular endurance, and strength with a desire to have fun.
Makers like HO, O'Brien, Connelly, and others have taken water skis to new and exciting levels, in different styles for the type of skiing you want to do from speed skiing to slalom to jumping and everything in between. Develop your skills and mastery as you enjoy the sheer fun of the sport!
