Staff Review
Dave here at The House, talking about, definitely one of the nicer, most tech ridden boots I got in the shop. What we got here is the
K2 Maysas DB Snowboard Boots. It stands for Double Boa. What they do is definitely a lot different than other companies. Usually you’ll see Double Boa both operating the outer Boa.
K2 actually has a side one here, going into tighten down the liner. Really, really nice, you can tight your liner without undoing the outer part of the boot. Really slick system that only they’re doing. We’ll get into that in a second, here first we’ll talk about the outer.
This is a limited edition artist collaboration, with the original penguin guys. It’s got the little penguin on it, kind of styled to have a retro, art deco, fifties theme to it. The bottom here, you’re going to have full rubber, throughout the whole thing. This does have
K2’s Harsh Mellow, which is their dampening agent that they’ll use in their boards, in their boots, and their bindings, really, really good at absorbing shock or smoothing out uneven, choppy terrain. Nice aggressive pattern on this one, it’s really going to grip good on the icy hard pack stuff. Nice coal molding too, got the EVA running through the middle to keep the weight down.
Full leather construction on this one, definitely going to be waterproof, definitely going to be durable, definitely going to look good. From there, what you’re looking on the inside here, you got the 3D molded tongue. As I mentioned before, the dual Boas, the front one here will be a coiler. So, basically when you pull it out and bring it back in it sucks all the extra cable in. Where, on the older ones, you’d sit there forever kind of reeling the dial to get the extra lace in, this one does it for you. Inside, you can see the harness for the internal Boa system that tightens down on the liner itself. It does Velcro to the tongue to stay in place, also makes it easier to take the liner in and out that way. And like I said, on the fly, while you’re in the boot, you can tighten or loosen your liner. It’s really, really nice, say you get to the bottom along the run along the run, loosen them on the chair ride up, just pop it out, they loosen up automatically, you get to the top, click it in, tighten them down, really slick system, only
K2’s doing it.
This one does have an articulating cuff, so it’s going to flex on itself, more like a hinge would. You know, get the bunching or crimping that you typical would in a solid boot all the way through. To the liner, you got a Intuition foam liner. Extremely light weight. This is a heat multiple liner. You could either just wear them around the house, or take them out riding and the heat will mold them out. Or, you could stick them at the towers in the shop; you could mold them out that way too. This one does, definitely have a nice built in heal support here, it’s going to give you good heal hold along with that Boa conda system. They’re doing that double Velcro tongue, instead of the power strap, I love it, it’s really easy to get in and out of, and it doesn’t shift at all throughout the day. As with almost every other boot we’ve reviewed this year, this one’s got a furry cuff, really, really hot for the 2010 season.
Deep heal pocket, like you see on the higher end boots for sure. 3D molded tongue on the liner as well as the outer two. Like I said, super, super lightweight, really good insulator, and will definitly custom form to your foot. Very few seams that actually touch your foot too, which is nice on these. From there, you got a real nice insole, good arch support, deep heal counter, definitely going to add some cushioning when you consider the fact it’s got some more Harsh Mellow on the bottom of the insole as well as the stuff in the sole of boot too, so really good at sucking up those icy hard pack landings for sure. Flex on this bad boy, 1 being soft, 10 being stiff, definitely looking at a higher end flex. This is going to be like a 6 to 6.5, intermediate to advanced rider, freestyle, free ride, you name it, pretty much will do it all.
Just a really ‘sick’ boot, good cosmetics going on to it, these things will sell themselves. The
K2 Maysas DB Snowboard Boots.
