Sirs: I need a real bendy mast, size 460 , to shape my sail. What do I look for ?
Robert W on Jul 14, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Robert W, I recently bought the Chinook Epoxy 2 pc 460cm mast from The House. I will attempt to answer your question, then I will give you my opinion about this Chinook 2pc Epoxy mast. I just did some research on Mast Bending. Many manufacturers assess the bendiness of their masts, and give some masts a 'Mast Bend Value'. You can find these values on some manufacturers websites. The Chinoook website gives Mast Bend Values for some of their Top End (i.e. expensive masts). A high number is bendier than a low number. Sometimes, masts have Bend Values for the Bottom of the mast (labelled 'B' on their websites) and different Bend Values for the Top of the mast (labelled 'T'). this is because the Top is skinnier than the Bottom, and therefore Bendier. So if you want to know that your mast is Really Bendy, try to find the Mast Specs, and look for high values. Now, about my mast. If you look up this mast on the Chinook (or The House) website, you will find that the Bend Value is listed as 'n/a' (not available etc.). In my opinion, that is because Bendiness of this mast is not a very flattering characteristic. It probably is NOT very bendy when compared to all Carbon masts...Epoxy masts are ancient technology when compared to Carbon masts. I did NOT buy this mast for its performance attributes....I bought it for its low price. I have taught my two teenage children how to windsurf and now when we go out, we usually have 3-4 rigs set up so that we can experiment and so they can grow and develop their skills. I can't afford to have four $500 masts. So I bought this one for its price. With that said, I consider myself an intermediate-advance windsurfer. I use a variety of sails ranging from 3-6.5 sqmeters and find that this mast suits all of my needs just fine. I have rigged this mast with sails that have induced a fair amount of bend and have not felt that the mast would break. I don't surf in waves. I'm very happy with this mast.

Can I use a 460 mast for a Fanatic 5'6 sail? The mast I have now is 490 but its not the break apart kind and its a pain to transport.
Tracie M on Jul 10, 2013
Best Answer: The Epoxy 2 Pc Slalom Windsurfing Mast can be used with a 5.6m sail provided you have a mast base extension and your sail does not require a reduced diameter mast.
