"Good quality luggage"
I've had this bag for a couple of years and have no complaints about it. It looks very sharp, and it's easy to spot out at the airport. It seems to be decently well made, really I haven't had any problems. It is a little bit on the smaller side though, it's best for a weekend trip or a day trip... I use it a lot to get away to Vegas or Tahoe for the weekends. Great bag for the price, and the look and brand are great.
"Good for Short Trips"
This is the perfect luggage if you are going on a shorter trip and want to have a carry on for the airport. There are many compartments which are very handy. The only downside is that if you are going on a longer vacation you will probably want to purchase the dakine split roller small luggage.
"Never select the wrong bag at the airport"
I needed a suitcase for a trip and picked this up because I love DaKine's board bags. The craftsmanship in this bag is great. However, just like any similar suitcase, they tend to weigh a bit due to the handles and wheels. I loved the Spirograph design since my bag was easy to spot on the carosel. Grabbed it, rolled away, bob's your uncle.
As with all Dakine stuff, its top notch. Great inbetween size. Not too big, not too small. I have the split roller, and bought this to go with it. Heaps of good pockets, and design etc. My only pitful, is that, even though it has good quality zippers, they arent designed to be locked.
I bought this bag to take on my ski trip (away for one week) as my check in luggage along with my snowboard bag and it's amazing the amount you can fit in this bag. Using the zip to expand the front part i've fit jeans, dresses, shoes, toiletries, socks, beanies, jumpers - you name it, i've crammed it in the bag. The two separate compartments makes packing much easier and will stop your bag from getting completely disorganised during your stay away. In short, I love this bag, it's great as a small suitcase, however I don't think I would ever use it as a carry-on - I think you would be running a risk with most airlines of them making you check it in as it actually looks quite big as well as not conforming to most airline standards for a carry-on. Overall, a fantastic bag that I will be using for a very very very long time :D
"Dakine Over/Under Bag"
I read the product description saying that this bag was bigger than legal carry-on size and thought it was a large bag. (There are measurements in the write-up, but I didn't want to pull out a ruler.) Technically, it may be a little too fat to be a legal carry-on, but it is the same size as my soon-to-be-replaced carry-on and I have never had a problem at the airport. If you stuff it to the gills, it may not quite fit in the overhead compartment of the airplane, but the length of the bag will definitely fit. This is pretty much the same as the Dakine Overhead Bag, except it is fatter and also has some expansion space. The side handle placement is also a little different (on the lid part instead of the main body part) and there are little plastic feet on the lid part to help the bag stand. The fabric is heavy duty and tough, but thin. This means it is lightweight, but also that you may have to pack strategically to prevent things from breaking or leaking. There are 2 external pockets for easy access in the car or on the plane. The big compartment on the inside can be divided into 2 parts, each separated by a mesh flap, or can be used as one big compartment (like a regular suitcase), but tucking down the mesh flaps. It's nice to have 2 spaces to separate your clean and dirty clothes when you are packing to go home from a trip. I think this is a great carry-on (or larger!) bag. Snatch one up at $42 before they're gone!
I picked this bag up after I purchased the large split roller and loved it. This bag is perfect for long weekend trips/carry-on for flights. One of the things that I love the most about this bag is that both sides have a separate zippered pouch. This way you can put the dirty clothes on one side and the clean clothes on the other and not have to worry about everything getting mixed up. Plus, you can make optimal use of all the space in the bag. This is a well-made bag and with the lifetime warranty you really can't go wrong.
