Description: Burton Ak Expedition Thermal Top

Just like all our Playering pieces, the Burton Ak Expedition Thermal Top breathes easy and dries quickly (unlike cotton) so you can ride and hike year round without getting soaked, cold, and clammy. If that's not enough, the DRYRIDE Ultrawick fabric also has built-in four-way stretch as well as an antimicrobial finish to fight stink. Expedition thermals from Burton are the warmest out there! I generally wear an Expedition thermal on a cold stormy day with a shell jacket. This is so warm that there is no need to wear a down jacket.

my favorite part is that the collar will keep snow out when you wear it under a jacket, it also looks pretty good on its own. but you've only got a couple of options to choose from. so take that for what it's worth

This thermal feels great, looks great, and is great. It's not too thick to fit under my jacket, but it's thick enough to keep me warm on cold days. If I had to do it again, I would get this thermal again, It Rocks!

  • "My favorite layer"

    , Charlotte, VT

  • "My favorite layer"

    Pros: Warm, Light-weight, Dry Cons:

The quarter zip micro-fleece type mid layer is an excellent choice. The layer is warm enough for cold days and will still keep you dry when you work up a sweat. I love it.

  • "ak - quality"

    , northcote, Vic
    Pros: great quality, lightish, Cons:

top ak quality, everything i buy of this range i am happy with. highly reccomend for those cold days

  • "Purrrfect"

    , sacramento, CA
Pros: mid weight, washes well, Cons: none,

I could live in this fleece. The mid weight and low bulk makes it the perfect layer for a tech shell. I use it for all but the warmest spring days.

  • "super heat with no bulk"

    , Wilrijk, AN
Pros: snug fit, warm, great look Cons: Nothing,

It's Burton AK, so you know you're buying top-notch quality. I've bought AK stuff before, and was always pleased with it. No different with this thermal midlayer sweater. If you like a loose fit, buy one size bigger, but you'll loose the warmth!

  • "Good Midlayer"

    , richmond, Vic
Pros: good quality, AK - awesome, warm Cons:

Great AK midlayer It is quite thick so you get pretty warm with this on AK is quality and you can't go wrong

  • "Not light weight, not heavyweight"

    , Gilbert, AZ
Pros: Warm, Not bulky, Middle-weight Cons:

Great for layering underneath on extremely cold days. Or for wearing as a top layer on warmer days. It's heavier than most base layers. And lighter than fleece. It fits perfectly in that void between. Basic styling and super-silky feel to it. Like it a lot

  • "fleece like "

    , monterey park, CA
Pros: warm, light, fits true to size Cons: none,

I wear everything in a Medium and Burton always seem to fit me just right. I use it as a mid-layer for those really cold days/nights. It's similar to a light fleece which was what I was looking for.

  • "feels like a fleece"

    , piedmont, CA
Pros: thick, Cons: not really a thermal,

this thing is so thick, i can almost wear it around like a fleece. Its true to size

  • "Burton Ak Thermal"

Pros: Warm, soft, comfy, good quality Cons:

This is more like a fleece but a bit thinner. I have ordered both black and olive in Large when it was only 19 bucks from the staff picks. Great price, good fit and very comfortable. The black one might get a bit dusky after wash. It's definitely the best base layer for very cold day on the slope.

  • "I love it. It's perfect for casual wear."

Pros: great quality of materials, as said before, not too heavy or light, perfect arm length for me Cons: no drawstring on the waist?,

I ordered the black medium one. On the chilly days out here in CO Springs, I throw this over a tshirt and I'm good to roll. I haven't taken this out boarding, as I bought this more for casual street wear. I'd imagine that this is the perfect mid-layer though. It's not thick like fleece, yet it's still waaarm. It's so good that I'm ordering another in a different color.

  • "great thermal"

    , KENT, WA
Pros: warm, great quality , Cons:

I purchased a large black and and a X-large olive .The large fits perfect, fitted but still not too tight- still room for a base layer underneath. They are pretty warm even though they are not very thick. The XL fit is a lil too big for me , but if you like it baggy -order a size up.

  • "Perfect for anytime"

    , fairfax, VA
Pros: Great price, SUPERsoft, Warm Cons: Frays easily around collar if you dont shave.,

I love this thermal. I wear it all the time instead of a heavier jacket. I have worn this for casual outings with a button up collar shirt underneath, and as a midlayer when boarding. Very soft to the touch and fits true to size. I prefer this over many of my other NorthFace and other Burton Midweight thermals. I may buy another one at this price.

  • "you need this!"

    , ERIE, PA
Pros: keeps you warm, great moisture wicking material, Cons:

i have both the 2007 and 2009 AK expedition tops (not much difference between the years) and use them all season long. my season temps are -8F and 45F. on the colder days i will layer more depending on the jacket (usally AK softshell or Analog asset). the expedition top is not cut huge and should be ordered in the same size as you would wear a t-shirt. this is the best (IMO) fisrt layer top to buy if you are on the ice coast or freezing your ass at jackson otr anywhere for that matter.

  • "Will probably pick up more..."

    , Lethbridge, AB
Pros: Great fit, suits my frame well, Warm, light layer, Durable! lots of washes and not pilly Cons: Price, if a good deal here tho,

I bought 2 on staff picks almost a year ago. I got it to layer with for colder days, it is warm, comfortable and fits such that it doesn't restrict movement at all. However, once fall hit again, I found myself wearing it ALL THE TIME, especially to work (office and field). I think it is a good simple pull over, that rocks style and function. I wear the sh*t out of mine, and after 100s of washes, still holding up well. 5/5

  • "Burton Ak Expedition Thermal Top Staff Pick!"

    , Lancaster, NY
Pros: Soft & Warm, Made w/ quality material.. doesn't look cheap, Great fit Cons:

I got a great deal when this was one of the staff's picks of the day! I purchased this item for more casual wear than riding wear and it's amazing. It's warm enough to wear alone during cold days in upstate NY i a instead of a jacket. Made mainly of polyester (92%) and a little spandex (8%).. so I don't have to worry about this shrinking in the dryer.

  • "One of my new favorites"

    , Portland, OR
    Pros: Warm, Great quality, Cons:

I purchased a large black and and a X-large olive .The large fits perfect, fitted but still not too tight- still room for a base layer underneath. They are pretty warm even though they are not very thick. The XL fit is a lil too big for me , but if you like it baggy -order a size up.

  • "Love it"

    , Sydney, NSW
Pros: Super Warm, Moisture Wicking, Good fit Cons: Too warm for a sunny day,

Love it. Bought it with the AK Expedition Bottoms last year and they keep you soooo toasty. The only problem is that if the weather changes during the day from cold/windy to a sunny one it gets a bit toast, but then you just open the zip at the front to let the air in and usually it's pretty good.

  • "AK Thermal"

    , CARY, IL
Pros: very warm, burton tech, Cons: fleece is kind of fuzzy,

Origionaly i bought this jacket for normal wear for fall weather because it looked like a nice jacket. It looks like it will definatly do the job and alos it is very cozy warm. I picked this up when it was on staff picks and it was definatly worth it. Even better, it has great burton tech with the ability to keep you dry. Overall, great purchase.

  • "Reason why it's a top seller"

    , AL
Pros: Nice material, Comfortable, Warm Cons:

This is great for when the weather gets pretty chilly. Or if its warm and you wanna forgo a jacket. I wear it as often as possible its so good. And with the olive pinstripe you'll be cruising the mountain in style. Base layer, mid-layer or on its own, this top will do what you need. Buy it!

  • "Holy freaking warmness"

    , Regina, SK
    Pros: Lightweight, Warm, Fuzzy Cons:

Liked the sleeve and torso length...too often I find clothes fall short in this area. Doesn't add much weight on your back but definitely holds in own in warmth...I was very surprised how toasty I was wearing only this piece. I ordered the small (6', 145 lbs) and it fits decent but is made for adding a thin base layer underneath. Much fleecier feeling than I expected, I wasn't sure what to expect from the material but it's super soft. Might have to order another one because my wife has already claimed it!

  • "My go-to mid layer"

    , portland, OR
Pros: warm, breathes well, comfortable texture Cons:

I love it when it's cold enough to justify breaking this out. It's so damn comfortable. It even has material on the underside of the zipper, so you won't have the chilly metal feeling against your skin. Looks good zipped up like a turtleneck, or folded down. I have a similar Spyder fleece, and it hasn't been worn once since I've gotten this one.

  • "Warm to the core"

Pros: Warm, Good fit, Cons: Pricey,

I bought this last year for a week-long ski trip out west; I also brought a long 3 other thermals for the occassion. I had Burton Dyer jacket which decent, but not very thick. I was able to just wear this thermal underneath and stay warm the entire time. Of the 4 thermals, I wore this one the most and it didn't even smell or anything which is great. I would definitely recommend this. I just picked up this year's and it feels even better.

  • "Follow up review regarding size."

    , Penticton, BC
Pros: Excellent material., Super comfy., Cons: Not made to be long.,

I just purchased additional thermals during the sale and purchased some of these in large. The large fit is a little too big. I'm 5'9.5 and 160lb. The body length is a little short and the sleeves are a little too long. So I would suggest sticking to normal fit (like my previous mediums). Definitely get some though.
