Lace up which wasn't my first choice but very comfortable and great support. Tongue well padded so you can snug them up without feeling too tight. I'm 220 and run in them as well as daily wear

BEST ANSWER: Funny you ask. I asked the House online help the same thing and was told pull string. They are not - they are lace up. I will say I love the shoes and House price was lowest on the web.
