Dave here at The House, talking about the
GNU Carbon Credit BTXsnowboard. This has great BTX technology for those on a budget. It is a sub-$400 banana traction snowboard. Mervin hand-makes these snowboards near Canada, in the States, definitely the greenest company out there. The newer reverse camber and magne-traction snowboards are typically $470 and higher, but this year they decided to drop the price point and still make a great, great snowboard.
This snowboard has the reverse camber, banana technology. They keep it between the bindings, so when you 50-50 or ride ice-packed stuff, it pushes the snowboard flat. This one has a softer flex versus the other banana snowboards, around a 4 on a scale up to 10 for flex. It's a super good entry level snowboard, but also great for freestyle. The snowboard has a pretty tough flex that'll work anywhere on the mountain, good for anyone beginner or intermediate, more advanced if you're freestyle stuff. Magne-Traction and gentle wobbling of the edge will definitely give you a little extra bite for when you're on icy, hard-packed stuff. If you're doing rails and boxes, you can de-tune it, and it still hooks up as good as a regular edge.
It's their basic construction, their Biax fiberglass, pretty cost-efficient and pretty forgiving flex torsionally on this one. There's also extruded base material, easy to take care of and repair if there's any damage to it. You've got a P-Tex sidewall that will add some shock absorption. It's more durable than ABS, and won't crack like some of the ABS's will.
GNU will always have a tucked edge construction. The edge will tuck into the layup of the snowboard, creating extra durability. It's also easier to repair, like if you don't have the edge buckling and you take a hit there. They use plastic tip and tail bumpers, so you can gouge it a good distance but still be able to bring the snowboard back to life and repair it, as opposed to in a full tip-to-tail wood wrapped edge where you're pretty much looking at a new snowboard. This is definitely some forward thinking from these guys: Riders building your snowboard instead of an expensive robot. The Gnu Carbon Credit BTX snowboard, definitely a good thing to throw your money at.
