I'm looking for a cross country ski I can take on snow covered North East hiking trails that are not groomed. Suggestions? I'm 6'2'' and 200lbs. I have no nordic centers in my area so any skiing will have to be done breaking trail.

BEST ANSWER: Yes!
Rossignol makes 2 styles of skis that will be excellent for Off trail exploration. I love the EVO skis which can switch between off trail and on trail seamlessly: http://www.the-house.com/search.html?keywords=rossignol+evo and as you said you will NOT be riding on trails the BC group here is even better: http://www.the-house.com/search.html?keywords=Rossignol+BC I think these: http://www.the-house.com/8990robc7015zz-rossignol-cross-country-skis.html or these: http://www.the-house.com/8986roevog15zz-rossignol-cross-country-skis.html will be the most fun!
Hi! I'm primarily doing trail touring with some infrequent off-trail use. Would like to feel securing going down non-groomed roads, though (when the case arises). I was thinking about the EVO 60s but now I'm looking at these Rossignol Evo OT 65 XC. How much difference is there between the two? Is the partial metal edge really necessary or would I get by fine on the EVO 60s if I occasionally go through off the groomed stuff onto the golf-course, etc.?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for the question. If you ski frequently and generally feel secure the Evo 60 with NNN binding and boot is a very stable platform for an active athletic upper intermediate to expert skier. The OT65 is sold a lot in the east, northeast US and eastern Canada where there is a lot of ice or hard crust on the trails. Unless you are encountering a lot of hard crust and ice and are insecure on your skis there really is no reason to go with the added weight and drag of a metal edged ski. The Evo 60 has proven itself to be a superb performer in the Midwest.
