Do older NNN style boots work with the auto NIS?

BEST ANSWER: Yes. The NIS system is essentially the NNN system... the bindings mount to a plate.
What would be needed for a first time cc skier? She is 5'10"

They would need skis, poles, boots, and bindings. For me to be of any help, their weight, and height (5'10") are needed. Where do they plan on skiing the most? And finally... Classical or Skate skiing?
